A Historical Landmark:
Fisherman’s Bastion was built in the late 19th century as part of the restoration of the nearby Matthias Church (Mátyás-templom) and the Buda Castle District. Although the fortress has a medieval appearance, it is a relatively recent addition to Budapest’s architectural landscape. The name “Fisherman’s Bastion” is derived from the fishermen who defended this part of the castle walls in medieval times.

Architectural Splendor:
Fisherman’s Bastion’s architectural design draws inspiration from a blend of styles, including Romanesque and Gothic elements. Its turreted towers, gleaming white walls, and intricate stone carvings create a whimsical and romantic ambiance. The seven towers of the bastion represent the seven Hungarian tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in the 9th century, while the ornate parapets and balconies offer a visual feast of arches, colonnades, and decorative motifs.
