Venice and its Lagoon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in northeastern Italy. It was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 1987 and is recognized for its exceptional cultural and historical significance, as well as its unique urban and natural landscape.

Get ready to be swept off your feet by the city of gondolas, canals, and gelato galore! Venice is a dreamlike wonderland where history and romance meet, and where every corner holds a new surprise. So, grab your sunglasses and a big appetite for pasta and let’s dive into the city’s magic!

Venice is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve gotten to visit on my European Tour. It is a tie between Budapest and Venice – I can’t really decide between them! These photos do not even begin to capture the beauty of everything surrounding me. The pasta, pizza, wine and Bellini’s were delicious and I cannot wait to be able to visit once more to eat again.

Snap a gazillion pictures, and don’t forget to wave at the gondoliers passing by – they’re basically Venetian rock stars!

Venice and its Lagoon – Key Features and History

City of Venice: The city of Venice is built on a series of 118 small islands within a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It is renowned for its intricate network of canals, beautiful bridges, and historic buildings. Venice is a masterpiece of architecture and urban planning, representing a blend of different architectural styles and influences from various historical periods.

Lagoon of Venice: The lagoon of Venice is a shallow body of water covering around 550 square kilometers and surrounded by several barrier islands known as the Venetian Lagoon Islands.
