When you’re short, it’s difficult to find a pair of jeans that have a shorter inseam. I am 5’2″ and I’m trying on seven pairs of jeans from American Eagle.
Luckily, AE offers their jeans in short and extra short lengths. This is my American Eagle jeans review.
Are American Eagle Jeans Good?
Yes, I love American Eagle jeans. The quality and fit of their jeans can vary based on personal preferences, body type, and the specific style you choose. It’s best if you select several options to try on for your own preference. The khakis below are very thin material, but the other jeans vary by stretch and wash.
High-Waisted Jeans
I want to start off with the most affordable pairs that have a great fit. High-waisted jeans are the favorite type of denim of many women. They are the most ideal for you if you’re looking to create an illusion of a smaller waist and longer legs. They make you look taller and slimmer. I ordered three styles to show you what they offer.

This is the pair that I already have in my closet, so just buying a replacement.

High level stretch holds its shape & won’t bag out so you always look and feel great. Fabric is super soft and they seem to have a corduroy feel. The reviews on the product itself has many that say the fabric tears at the seam within a few wears. I can feel how thin that fabric is, so I’m definitely not keeping this pair. They have a 10.25” rise, a legging-like fit that is fitted through leg with a 9.75″ leg opening.

This is their softest, stretchiest, never-loses-its-shape denim that’s super soft, super comfortable, breathable denim. They claim it won’t ever bag out. They have a high rise of 10.25″ and a 17″ leg opening. They are very good quality and I would recommend these jeans to anyone.

An easy straight leg that perfectly skims the ankle. They have stretch and mid-weight structured denim with just enough stretch for everyday comfort. They come in four colors: dark shadow, classic medium, washed black and blue street.
Low-Rise Jeans
Low-rise jeans are slowly coming back to the mainstream. There is a sense of panic around the revival of the trend because some of those were the lowest rises in the early 2000’s. Luckily, the options at American Eagle were not below the hip bones.

These are skinniest fit in a low rise & soft stretch denim. They have a low 9 1/2″ rise and 9 3/4″ leg opening. They fit really well, and are very comfortable. Although these are low-rise, they sit at my natural waist.

These have a unique, wider waistband, fitted thigh, & easy, cropped leg. They are very soft and very stretchy – but they do get baggy after a couple wears. They are super lightweight. They come in two colors: dark vintage and classic medium. These are my favorite pair to wear.

Comes in two colors: dark ink and simply dark. These are the low-rise boot fit – long & lean with a classic bootcut leg. Made for curves with extra room in the hip & thigh.

These jeans are more of a mid-rise than a low-rise, so watch what size you order. It comes in four colors: bright white, onyx black, dark wash and medium bright indigo. These are their classic low-rise boot fit – long and lean with a wide leg opening. They are the softest, stretchiest, never-loses-its-shape denim.
Mom Jeans
The mom jeans are a new style for me. All I can think of is the mom jeans SNL skit when I hear this term. They were originally fashionable in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but the new-age mom jeans are the most modest, versatile and timeless pair of jeans out there.

The stretch mom jeans are tapered, ankle-skimming fit. These jeans sits at the natural waist with a 11.75″ rise, so they are much higher waisted that the jeggings. They are slim through top of body & relaxed through leg and they hit right above the ankle with a 28″ inseam and 13.5″ leg opening. They were a little tight in the waist, but that is because I’m used to wearing the stretch fabric.They have a mid-weight structured denim with just enough stretch for everyday comfort that holds its shape & won’t bag out.

The strigid mom jeans comes in three color: light aglow, blue breeze, destroyed black. They are high-waisted, tapered & ankle-skimming. Rigid in the front. Stretchy in the back.

Straight Leg Jeans
Straight leg jeans have been making a comeback, but I wasn’t ready for a 90’s theme. Straight leg jeans have the same leg width from the hips all the way down the leg to the hem. Some manufacturers call it a boyfriend jean for its baggy fit.

These jeans are very rigid made with a classic cotton denim with no stretch. Just like I remember from the 90s, haha. They have a 10 1/8″ high rise with a relaxed thigh and straight leg and a 15.75″ leg opening. They were a little tight in the waist, but that is because I’m used to wearing the stretch fabric. I wanted to try these on because I wanted to get away from skinny jeans, but I don’t find these exceptionally flattering.

Built to get even better over time. Designed in New York City. This pair had a button front closure and reminded me of an old pair of madewell jeans I used to own.

These were waaaaay too wide leg for me. I felt like I was drowning in material. A super high rise & exaggerated ultra-wide leg for a fashion-forward fit. Drapey denim with no stretch that looks & feels like authentic denim with ultimate comfort. There seems to be a lot of reviews that do not like this pair.

These pants run a little small – especially being so high rise. These pants are a super high rise & wide leg for a cool, slouchy fit. They have stretch and mid-weight denim with just enough stretch for everyday comfort. These were a little too long on my legs.

A high rise & wide leg for a cool, slouchy fit. It comes in 3 colors: olive, brown and hazy grey. These pants are so soft and comfy. I highly recommend for style and comfort. They were a little long for being a short in sizing.

American Eagle Jeans – Final Thoughts
I think I would try another version of their mom jeans to make sure that I don’t rule them out. I’m also open look for another, less wide, straight leg jean.
