One of my 2023 goals is to read 50 books this year. Yes, it’s the same as last year and, yes, that’s okay. You can review a list of all the books I rate 5 stars in 2022.
1. The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Category: Mystery
To inherit billions, all Avery Kylie Grambs has to do is survive a few more weeks living in Hawthorne House. The paparazzi are dogging her every step. Financial pressures are building. Danger is a fact of life. And the only thing getting Avery through it all is the Hawthorne brothers. Her life is intertwined with theirs.
I liked this book except for the fact that I didn’t read the original one first. I like the characters, the games, the secrecy – the overall plot. I just jumped into a story that I needed a little background information on first.
2. These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
Category: Fantasy
A take on Romeo and Juliet, eighteen-year-old Juliette Cai has returned to assume her role as the proud heir of the Scarlet Gang—a network of criminals far above the law. I read half of this book and quit. I just couldn’t do it.
