1. The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Carlota Moreau is a young woman, growing up in a distant and luxuriant estate, safe from the conflict and strife of the Yucatán peninsula. The only daughter of either a genius, or a madman. Her father creates hybrids which are part human and part animal monstrosities. Moreau keeps secrets and Carlota has questions.
2. Book of Night by Holly Black
Charlie is a low-level con artist, working as a bartender while trying to distance herself from the powerful and dangerous underground world of shadow trading. She gets by doing odd jobs for her patrons and the naive new money in her town at the edge of the Berkshires. But when a terrible figure from her past returns, Charlie’s present life is thrown into chaos, and her future seems at best, unclear—and at worst, non-existent.
3. Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins
This is a really short book to read! When Lux McAllister and her boyfriend, Nico, are hired to sail two women to a remote island in the South Pacific, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. The two women say they want to travel off the beaten path. But like Lux, they may have other reasons to be seeking an escape.
