If traffic is light, you will arrive here after an hour’s drive from Fort Worth. How far is Glen Rose from Dallas? It’s about 1.5 hours from central Dallas. It makes a fun destination for a day trip from Fort Worth and Dallas.

  1. Historic Downtown Glen Rose – Glen Rose has a historic courthouse square area that is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and a museum.
  2. Dinosaur Valley State Park – Transport yourself back in time to the age of dinosaurs at Dinosaur Valley State Park. The 1,587-acre Dinosaur Valley State Park opened in 1972. Its mission is to preserve these valuable dinosaur track sites and to allow people to learn from and enjoy them.
  3. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center – Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 entity, specializing in captive breeding programs for indigenous and exotic endangered and threatened species. You can enjoy a self-guided drive through 7.2 miles of Texas hill country and see endangered antelope and possibly feed giraffes.
  4. Dinosaur World – Dinosaur World offers fun for the entire family, but especially for the youngsters that are fascinated by dinosaurs. Visitors have an opportunity to literally walk among the dinosaurs. The museum is complete animatronic dinosaurs, fossil replicas and natural fossils, a dinosaur dig for the kids, and a playground.
  5. Wheeler Branch Park – The park has a boat ramp with floating dock, a beach area that also has its own floating dock island, public restrooms, covered picnic areas, and a large pavilion.
  6. Big Rocks Park – Located on the Paluxy River, Big Rocks Park is full of unusually large rocks. There are plenty of shallow areas for children to climb, explore and play. Families can enjoy swimming and cooling off from the Texas heat or enjoy lunch sitting underneath the trees. There are plenty of areas to walk along the Paluxy. Enjoy taking in the beautiful sights and sounds of Glen Rose. The park is completely free!
  7. Walk Along the Paluxy River – The Paluxy is the shortest and most violent river in Texas. There is a riverwalk along the river that takes you to Downtown Glen Rose and also the Big Rocks Park.
  8. Windmill Farm Driving Tour – Take a driving tour through this 26 acre property and view historic windmills that have been lovingly restored to their original condition. The Windmill Farm is a short seven mile drive to Tolar, just outside Granbury and also has cabins available for rent.
